Discipline

A quick shout out to my sister Norma A. at GTT. She was really the inspiration for my next series of posts. I have been reading the book "Celebration of Discipline" by Richard Foster. I had decided that I would read through this book this year and put the spiritual disciplines into better practice. Norma heard about it and asked me to give her weekly summaries of what I was reading. I thought that these summaries would be great on a blog for all to see. I really recommend the book. A summary just doesn't cut it. The book celebrated it's 25th year anniversary. That says something doesn't it...?

Here are the Spiritual Disciplines:
  1. Meditation
  2. Prayer
  3. Fasting
  4. Study
  5. Simplicity
  6. Solitude
  7. Submission
  8. Service
  9. Confession
  10. Worship
  11. Guidance
  12. Celebration

I will try to summarize the chapters and give some of his quotes and my thoughts. I am looking forward to what 2005 has to offer. I believe that God will show us grace the more we move within the sphere of these disciplines. Feel free to join me on this journey. It can only bring about good in our life!

oops... I deleted my comment by mistake! :o Here it is again:

Hello! I'm always interested in finding the blogs of other Christians (just clicking "next blog!")! It's kinda fun! I'm doing a book on spiritual disciplines, too, in my small group. It's called "The life you've always wanted" by John Ortberg (cheesy title, but good book). Anyway, I hope you don't mind me saying hello! I love the title of your blog, by the way... it's the story of my life! :P May God bless you as you seek more of Him!

Hello,

Are you familiar with the Carmelite mystics? You might be interested in reading the writings of Saint John of the Cross and Saint Theresa of Avila. Lots of great stuff and very rooted in the Bible.

God bless!
Joe
